What is Good Crowd?
Good Crowd is an iPhone app for giving to several nonprofits with one monthly donation. You pick IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) organizations, set one amount, and Good Crowd splits it across them and pays each one its share.
How does Good Crowd split one donation across several nonprofits?
You choose an even split or set your own percentages, and the app divides your monthly amount into whole cents using a largest-remainder split, so the shares always add up to exactly what you gave. A $20 gift across three nonprofits becomes $6.67, $6.67, and $6.66.
What does Good Crowd charge?
A platform fee of 6% plus 30 cents is added on top of your donation and shown before you confirm. Your nonprofits receive 100% of the donation amount you set; the fee covers card processing and running the service.
Are donations through Good Crowd tax-deductible?
Every organization on Good Crowd is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3), and gifts to 501(c)(3)s are generally tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers who itemize. Good Crowd is the merchant of record and emails you an itemized monthly receipt listing each organization and the amount it received; confirm how it applies to you with a tax professional.
How and when do nonprofits get paid?
Each organization's share is held in its name and transferred to its own bank account through Stripe Connect in batches, once the organization has claimed its profile and finished payout onboarding. Transfers go out when an organization's balance reaches the batching threshold or its oldest unpaid gift is about 90 days old, whichever comes first.
What happens to money for a nonprofit that has not claimed its profile?
Good Crowd holds that organization's share and keeps trying to reach it so it can claim its profile and connect a payout account. If the money cannot be delivered within a reasonable period, Good Crowd contacts you to return it or, with your permission, redirect it to another organization in your portfolio.
How do I cancel?
Open Manage giving in the app and choose Stop monthly giving. Your giving ends at the close of the current billing period, you are not charged again, and you can resume from the same screen at any time.
Can I change my amount or the nonprofits in my portfolio?
Yes. Change your monthly amount, add or remove organizations, or rebalance the split at any time in the app; changes apply to your next monthly charge.
Is Good Crowd available outside the United States?
No. Good Crowd is for U.S. donors giving to U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and the app is on iPhone only at launch.
How do I know a nonprofit on Good Crowd is real?
Every organization in the catalog is listed by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) and is shown with its EIN, location, mission, and the financial figures on its public filings. You can confirm any EIN yourself in the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search.
